Your Inner World Becomes Your Reality

Why are some people always happy and some are perpetually miserable. They live in the same environment and encounter the same people and events and yet respond differently. There are people who are rich and yet grouchy even when they have everything they need and more. There are people who are dirt poor and yet find a reason to celebrate life. Of course there are people who are rich and are happy and poor people who are grouchy and miserable too. So it is not the external circumstances or happenstance that create their moods or their character. If it is not the external world that is causing their state of happiness, it must be their inner world that is. If you see misery and suffering around you it is probably because you have misery and suffering in your heart. We see the world around us and interpret it according to our "reality". If you are a pessimist you tend to see the problem in anything that happens. You would probably win the lotto and worry that someone might kill you for the money. Someone gives you a gift and you try to think about their motives of giving you the gift. Pessimists always manage to find something wrong with everything that happens to them. They believe that the default of the world is negative and if something positive happens to them it must be a fluke and it will not happen again. On the other hand positive people or optimists believe that the default is positive and anything negative is a fluke and will not happen again.

If you are an optimist, this bodes well for your future. Negative events are more likely to roll off of your back, but positive events affirm your belief in yourself, your ability to make good things happen now and in the future, and in the goodness of life. Fortunately for pessimists and realists, these patterns of thinking can be reversed to a certain degree. We can resort to a practice of ‘cognitive restructuring,' You can help yourself and others by consciously challenging negative, self-limiting thoughts and beliefs and replacing it with more optimistic thoughts and beliefs.

Our inner world reflects on our outer reality. Work on improving your innermost thoughts and challenge negative beliefs and you will slowly find evidence that the world is getting better and it will.

Watch your thoughts, they turn into words
Choose your words, they turn into actions
Understand your actions, they turn into habits
Study your habits, they turn into your character
Develop character for it determines your destiny.
